Army Repels Al-Nusra Front’s Attacks on Gov’t Positions in Idlib

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army soldiers repelled terrorists’ massive attack on their positions in the Southeastern part of Idlib province after hours of clashes, inflicting major losses on them.

The Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at or the Levant Liberation Board) terrorists’ fresh attacks to capture the government forces’ positions in Southeastern Idlib were fended off by the strong defense of the Syrian military men.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in other parts of Syria, including Damascus and Hama, over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in Syria’s key provinces.

Idlib

The Syrian Army troops fought back a fresh round of attacks by al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at or the Levant Liberation Board) in Southeastern Idlib following terrorists’ move to form a Joint Operation Room in Hama and Idlib provinces, well-informed sources said on Friday.

The Al-Nusra terrorists deployed in Tal (hill) Aqbar and Tal Skeik in Southern Idlib stormed the army positions near Atshan, Tal Marq, al-Khowein, Zerzur and Um al-Khalali in Southeastern Idlib, but their attacks were warded off by the army soldiers, the sources said.

They added that the army men further carried out rapid counter-attacks and managed to recapture lost positons.

A sum of 20 terrorists, including field commanders, were killed and their military hardware were destroyed in the failed attacks in the army’s counter-attacks.

Meantime, tens of militants, including three notorious commanders of the combat units of three main terrorist groups have been killed in the Syrian Army troops’ operation in Northeastern Hama and Southeastern Idlib, local sources confirmed on Friday.

The sources said that Ibrahim al-Alyan nom de guerre Abu Rabi’a, a military commander of Jeish al-Nasr-Free Army, was killed in the army attacks in Northeastern Hama.

In the meantime, Basam Khatab nom de guerre Abu Seif Kafr Owayd, a commander of Ahrar al-Sham and field Commander of Faylaq al-Sham Hassan Abu Khadija were killed in the battles with the army men in Khwein region in Southeastern Idlib.

Field sources confirmed on Thursday that the army men regained control of the villages of Rasm al-Dabisheh, Rasm Abed Boutiyeh and Um Jarin in operations in Southeastern Idlib.

Reports also said that the Syrian army soldiers have advanced in the town of Abu al-Dhohour West of Abu al-Dhohour airbase, regaining control of the Eastern districts of the town.

Sources said that during the army operations, a field commander of al-Nusra terrorist group, namely Qasourah al-Qabi was killed.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops, backed up by tanks and armored vehicles, continued to beat back terrorists from more positions in Eastern Ghouta, field sources confirmed on Friday.

The sources said that the army men, supported by a large number of tanks and armored vehicles, were advancing against militants despite ferocious resistance, adding that very heavy clashes are underway between the army soldiers and terrorists throughout the Harasta district in Eastern Damascus.

They added that the army men scored a 200-meter deep advance in the area after heavy rocket shelling by Gulan artillery systems in recent hours.

The Harasta Orchards represent the first and most crucial line of defense held by Al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood-linked terrorists within the entire district.

Some of the longest tunnels and most interlinked trench networks dug by terrorists run throughout the area.

The capture of the terrorists’ first defense line by the Syrian forces will rapidly accelerate the collapse of militant resistance within Harasta.

In the meantime, Syrian Army commanders on the ground have called on additional storming units of the 105th Republican Guard Brigade to further bolster their offensive potential.

Hama

The Syrian Defense Ministry released on Friday footage of the Syrian Army operation that led to the capture of two towns from Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists in the Northeastern countryside of Hama province.

The army and allied forces continued their slow, but nonetheless steady advance in Northeastern Hama after recommencing major offensive operations throughout the semi-desert plains region several days ago.

Pro-government forces do not necessarily possess a great number of troops in the Northeast Hama target sector, rather the ongoing success of Syrian troops lay with the sheer amount of artillery they have at their disposal which allows them the overwhelm militants on any given point of contact.

Footage released recently by the Syrian Defense Ministry showed the operation conducted by the Syrian Army and allied paramilitaries over the last two days which resulted in the capture of Um Sahreej and Um Maiyal from Al-Nusra Front.

To this effect, artillery served as the main battlefield asset which broke down rebel defenses around Um Sahreej and Um Maiyal and forced militants to withdraw without putting up too much of a fight.
