Damascus, SANA

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry strongly condemned Turkey’s intervention into Iraqi territory.

This “flagrant” act of intervention is but a part of the subversive role which the Turkish government under the Justice and Development Party has been practicing against Syria and Iraq, the Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The Turkish government, it added, has repeatedly transgressed the Syrian sovereignty and continues providing support to the terrorist organizations and facilitating their crimes.

The Turkish forces’ entry into Iraqi territory without the Iraqi government’s approval is a “brazen” violation of Iraq’ sovereignty, the statement went on saying, adding that this act flagrantly contravenes the UN Charter and increases tensions in the region.

The Ministry’s statement expressed Syria’s full solidarity with the government and people of Iraq against this “act of aggression”, demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Turkish forces from Iraq and respect of Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against interference.

Russian Defense Ministry: Statements by US officials about Syria based on double standards
5 December، 2015
Moscow, SANA

Russia’s Defense Ministry asserted that the statements of US officials about Syria are based on double standards, expressing surprise as they seem not to notice how stolen oil by ISIS terrorists is smuggled into Turkey.

RT website quoted Major-General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the ministry as saying in a press statement:” When US officials say that they don’t notice how smuggled oil is transferred by terrorists to Turkey, this is more than mere cunning as it provides a direct cover to terrorists”.

Earlier, US State Department spokesman acknowledged that the photos presented by Russian military personnel showing hundreds of oil tanks for ISIS terrorists are real photos, yet he said he had not seen any crossings through which these oil tanks pass the Syrian- Turkish borders.

Illegal oil trade by terrorists was targeted by the Russian Air Force, with Konashenkov speaking of “12 oil pump stations, eight oil fields and refineries, and over 170 oil tanker trucks” destroyed over the past seven days.

He reminded that Russia has repeatedly warned of the danger of “flirting” with terrorists and stressed that this is a “short-sighted” policy that might have “bloody consequences in your streets and ours.”

The spokesman added that terrorism is “an absolute evil” that must be confronted.

Earlier this week, the Defense Ministry presented maps and satellite images that it said prove that Turkey is the main destination of the smuggled oil, accusing the country’s leadership, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of having financial ties with terrorists.

Over 200 Militants Surrender to Syrian Authorities in Damascus Province

TEHRAN (FNA)- A growing number of militants are giving up fight against the Damascus government as the Syrian army is advancing in multiple front across the country.

Some 200 wanted militants from Zabadani region and Madaya in Damascus province turned themselves in to the authorities on Saturday.

“The Syrian government has vowed to pardon all those who lay down arms voluntarily and it has remained loyal to its pledge so far, and this has encouraged us to give up fight, specially considering that the government troops, National Defense Forces (NDF) and Hezbollah who also enjoy the air backup of the Syrian and Russian air forces has gained momentum in its battlefield victories,” one of those who surrendered in Damascus today said.

Until last year, most surrendering cases happened in Homs and Damascus provinces, but now a growing number of militants lay down arms across the country.

Late in November, sources said some 159 wanted militants turned themselves in to the authorities as the army continues to purge almost the entire coastal province of Lattakia of terrorist groups.

The sources said that the recent victories of the Syrian army and National Defense Forces (NDF), with the back up of the Russia fighter jets, have caused too many Takfiri terrorists to lay down their guns and apply for government pardoning in Lattakia province.

On Nov 11, some 69 wanted militants turned themselves in to the Syrian authorities in the Northern Province of Aleppo as the army defeated the ISIL terrorists who had laid siege on Kuweires Airbase for 2.5 years and still continues to gain more territories in the province.

Some 119 wanted terrorists from Homs province surrendered to the government as the terrorist groups are retreating from several areas across the country.

After the capture of Nasrallah village, the Tiger Forces and their allies are now in a position to cross into the Al-Baab Plains, after a three-year absence from this front in the Eastern countryside of Aleppo, which is deeply entrenched with ISIL terrorists as their strongholds of Menbaj and Al-Baab are located in this region.

The Syrian army’s Tiger Forces and their allies are currently fighting ISIL at the strategic hilltop village of Tal Al-Ahmar, South of the Kuweires Military Airport; if captured, the airbase will be completely secure at its Southern perimeter.

In November, the Syrian army, popular forces and Hezbollah forces, backed up by Syrian and Russian air force, lifted the two and a half-year-long siege of Kuweires military airbase after killing hundreds of ISIL terrorists.

US Building Military Airbase in Northeastern Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- US experts are reconstructing and equipping a desolate airport special to carrying agricultural products in the region controlled by the Kurdish forces in Hasaka region, Northeastern Syria, to turn it into a military base.

The Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Saturday that a number of US experts have entered the region since 50 days ago to develop and prepare the runways with 2,500m length and 250m width to be used by fighter jets.

Abu Hajar airport which has not been used since 2010 is located in Tal al-Hajar region in the Eastern countryside of Hasaka which is controlled by the Kurdish People’s Defense Units (YPG).

The airbase is located Southeast of the town of Rimelan, which is one of the YPG’s main strongholds and “largest arms and ammunition depots”.

The US has not received or even asked for a permission from Damascus for reconstructing the airbase. The United States does not have a UN mandate for interventing in the Syria war.

The airport will help enable Washington to add an additional safe place to land its forces, commando units for instance, and bring in military support to its allies who are working to finalize control over Southern Hasaka countryside, al-Akhbar said.

The report came over a week after the Kurdish region said that the US and Kurdish forces were working together to construct a 10 hectare military airbase South of the town of Rimelan in the village of Rimelan al-Basha.

“American experts are directly supervising the airbase with a Kurdish workforce,” the reports claimed, saying that US unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) had been flown from the facility to test it.

The report also said that two helicopter had flown over the town of Rimelan on November 24 and landed eight US military specialists at the airport.

Interestingly, the Kurdish YPG issued a statement saying that “two unknown helicopters” had flown over Rimelan on the same day.

The following day, the Kurdish media said that residents in the nearby village of Cil Axa had heard helicopters overhead, although they claimed they were Turkish.

Convoy of ISIL Oil Tankers Hit by Russian Fighter Jets Near Syria-Turkey Border

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian warplanes traced and targeted a long convoy of ISIL’s oil tankers near the Syrian border with Turkey, sources said on Saturday.

A 170-tanker column of ISIL came under the massive strike of the Russian bombers as they were approaching the border with Turkey, sources said.

“All the tankers were destroyed in the Russian warplanes’ airstrike,” the sources added, and continued, “Scores of ISIL terrorists accompanying the convoy were also killed or wounded in the air attack.”

Reports said earlier today that Turkey has refused US demands to stop oil smuggling and close the part of the border with Syria which is controlled by ISIL militants.

Ankara said that it is impossible to close the border and ISIL (Daesh) terrorists may boost their forces in response, according to the Hurriyet Daily News.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also underscored that if the border is closed Ankara will not be able to accept refugees from Syria.

However, closing the border along the area controlled by ISIL would create obstacles for smuggling the oil Turkey buys from the terrorists. Recently, Russia accused Ankara of buying illegal oil from militants in Syria and transporting it to three ports across the Turkish-Syrian border.

The Russian Defense Ministry provided evidence of Turkey buying and transporting illegal oil, including images of oil-carrying tank trucks near the border. The ministry claimed Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his family are involved in selling illegal oil.

Earlier, Washington proposed to close 98 kilometers of the Turkish-Syrian border and deploy additional forces to the area. According to estimates, the measure would require nearly 30,000 troops and building watchtowers each three meters along the borderline.

Davutoglu said the county does not have enough money and asked the US to partially fund the initiative.

Earlier, a representative of the US State Department admitted that illegal oil from Syria has been delivered to the Turkish market. Washington asked Ankara to close the border. The US also said it did not believe Erdogan was involved. However, its stance toward Erdogan may change if the border remains open for oil smuggling.
