FM Condemns West’s Comments Following the Barbaric Execution of a Woman by Hanging

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry deplored certain western officials’ interfering remarks about the execution of a female convict in Iran as “unacceptable”.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham condemned some western officials’ negative comments on the execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari, terming those moves as “intervention”.

“Intervention in a judiciary case whose legal procedure has been thorough and the appeal right, too, has been observed is unacceptable and condemned,” Afkham said on Wednesday.

She said that the full procedure of that file had been completed by the Iranian Judiciary, which is in accordance with the country’s Constitution in charge of heeding such cases.

Meantime, Afkham explained that according to the Iranian and Islamic laws, the public aspect of a crime like murdering an individual requires 15 years behind the bars in Iran, but its private aspect, which depends on the close relatives of the murdered person requires death (Qisas), which is beyond the Judiciary’s powers.

Reyhaneh Jabbari Malayeri was a woman convicted of murdering Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi. She was in prison from 2007 until her execution by hanging on Saturday for killing Sarbandi.
