US Attempting to Drive Away Hashd Al-Shaabi from Syrian Borders

TEHRAN (FNA)- A prominent Iraqi security expert revealed Washington’s attempts to distant Hashd al-Shaabi (popular forces) from the borders with Syria, warning that the ISIL could attack them with the US backup.

Kazim al-Haaj was quoted by the Arabic-language al-Ma’aloumeh news website as saying that the American forces are conducting provocative acts against the Iraqi security and Hashd al-Shaabi forces at the borders with Syria to drive them away from the bordering areas.

He warned that the Hashd al-Shaabi forces feel threatened as they might be stabbed in the back by the US that has set up new bases in Iraq recently.

The second danger, according to al-Haaj, is that possibly the Americans would lead the terrorist groups stationed inside Syria towards the Iraqi security and Hashd al-Shaabi forces with the aim of stirring tensions.

In relevant remarks on Thursday, a senior member of the Iraqi parliament’s security and defense commission warned of a joint plot by the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel to dismantle Hashd al-Shaabi.

Karim Aliwi told al-Ma’aloumeh that the US was hatching a big plot in the Middle-East which would be centered in Iraq.

He cautioned of the US attempts to paralyze Hashd al-Shaabi and annihilate it, and said certain Arab states, specially Saudi Arabia, which cooperate with Israel against Hashd al-Shaabi and the resistance forces would accompany Washington in the execution of its plots.

Aliwi also said that the US was attempting to legalize its presence in Iraq and establish permanent bases in the country after blacklisting Hashd al-Shaabi and the resistance forces.

Also, last Wednesday, Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, underlined that Washington’s hostile stance towards Hashd al-Shaabi and its quest for dismantling popular groups in the Arab state derived from their opposition to the US forces’ occupation of Iraq.

“The US administration in an unprecedented demand called on the Iraqi government on Tuesday to dissolve 67 groups operating in the framework of the Iraqi popular forces, while all these groups were welcomed by Washington when they were fighting against the ISIL alongside the US forces. Then what has changed now,” Atwan wrote.

Noting that Iraq’s security and national identity is gradually reviving, he said that Hashd al-Shaabi forces or their leaders have demanded withdrawal of all the 5,500 US military troops from Iraq and are opposed to the US use of military bases in Iraq for possible attacks against Syria and Iran.

Atwan added that Hashd al-Shaabi was also hostile to Israel and is in clear solidarity with Syria, which is another reason for the US enmity.

Hashd al-Shaabi has helped the Iraqi and Syrian governments to fight against the terrorist groups for several years now.
