Russian Defence Ministry comments on statement by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian that “Russia misappropriated the victory over the ISIS”.
At least, it is strange to hear that from the head of the French Foreign Affairs Ministry about misappropriation of the victory over the ISIS by Russia.
Defeat of the ISIS in Syria is first of all result of actions by the Syrian leadership and the Syrian Arab Army.
The Syrian Army supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces has liberated hundreds of settlements and towns from the ISIS. The legal government has taken almost all territory of the country under control.
Over that time, the international coalition was focused on counter-acting the Syrian government troops, including direct air strikes on their positions in Deir ez-Zor.
Over three years, the ‘coalition’ only recently ‘succeeded’ for the first time in fighting the ISIS in Syria, when it had delivered mass bombing of Raqqa and its civilians.
However, according to the BBC channel, the coalition allowed large group of the ISIS militants to leave the city and join another grouping near Deir ez-Zor.
That is why, if there is any positive role of the international coalition in defeating the ISIS in Syria, it is only that it did not manage to destroy other Syrian cities with carpet bombing.
Earlier, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian stated that Russia misappropriated the victory over the ISIS in Syria.
“I find it strange that Russia appropriates victory over the ISIS,” said Jean-Yves Le Drian in his interview to BFMTV.
According to him, forces of the international coalition pushed the terrorists away, and the Russian military came to assist the forces of (Syria’s President) Bashar Assad and in the end liberated Deir ez-Zor with a certain delay.
