Iraqi Intelligence: Baghdadi Lives in Syria

The Iraqi Ministry of the Interior denounced as fabrications reports of the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi after Russia announced his killing in Syria in late May on the outskirts of Damascus.

“Al-Baghdadi is still hiding in Syria outside the city of Al-Raqqa,” said Ali al-Basri, director general of intelligence and counterterrorism at the Interior Ministry.

He added: “Intelligence agencies in the Arab world  monitor all the movements of the Daesh leader and his followers.

The reality, after the liberation of Mosul, is that the capabilities of this terrorist organization not only remains a threat to Iraq and the region, but the entire world.”  He warned of “plans to promote the targeting of international cities soon after defeats in Iraq.

Daesh has sent sleeper cells from Syria through Turkey to spread terror and chaos.”
