The opening session of the 4th round of the Syrian-Syrian dialogue started in Geneva on Thursday with the participation of the Syrian Arab republic delegation, “al-Riyadh opposition” and other delegations.

The UN Special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said at the opening session”We hope the UN HQ in Geneva would be a basis for a solution to the crisis in Syria.”

He affirmed that the meeting which starts today in Geneva is an opportunity to put the track of the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

“No military solution to the crisis… the only solution is the political one,” he said.

“The Syrian people are glorious, they need an end to the crisis and have a better future that meets their legitimate aspirations,” de Mistura added.

De Mistura affirmed that he will do his best to boost the role of woman effectively in this Syrian effort.

“Astana meeting has launched the effort that we exert today, and it opened a window and an opportunity to see if there is a political track in order to go ahead and we don’t want to miss this opportunity,” de Mistura said.

He added that the UN Security council has urged all Syrian sides to take part in the political process “with good will and without any preconditions.”

Later, de Mistura said at a press conference that he will hold bilateral meetings on Friday with the Syrian sides to put a work plan for this round of negotiations.

“At least, we put today a basic brick on the track of the political solution to the crisis in Syria,” he added.
