Russian Ministry of Defense Media Briefing on Syria

Media briefing of the Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoy

Most complicated situation in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic remains in Aleppo.

Illegal armed groups do not stop shelling the western part of the city.

Last week, terrorists opened fire 64 times against western areas of the Aleppo city with mortars and Hellfire systems. As a result of these attacks, 127 civilians were killed and 254 ones were wounded.

Moreover, illegal armed groups fired shells fitted with poisonous substance from 1070 quarter against Dahiyat al-Assad and al-Hamdaniya areas on October 30. Two Syrian military servicemen were killed; thirty-seven civilians were wounded.

A group of specialists of the nuclear, biological, and chemical protection scientific center of the Russian Armed Forces has arrived in Aleppo in order to participate in the investigation of the event.

Taking advantages of the moratorium on flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces and Syrian Air Force in a 10-km zone around Aleppo, on October 28, armed formations launched active warfare and took efforts to enter the eastern part of the city in direction to the al-Assad Academy. Insurgents carried out their attacks on areas of the amusement park, paperboard plant, Minyan inhabited area and 3000 quarter.

Along with that, insurgents, which had kept positions in the eastern Aleppo, took efforts with perform encounter assault near the humanitarian corridor in the area of the Souq al Hai market.

All attacks of insurgents have been repelled. As a result, terrorists suffered significant losses: 21 tanks, 10 IFVs, 6 MLRS, 14 mortar crews, 80 automobiles with large-caliber machine guns, and 12 cars fitted with explosive devices and driven by suicide bombers.

Insurgents failed to leave the eastern Aleppo. Efforts taken by armed groups to leave Maal Widgi and Hai Shaiban Pasha were unsuccessful either.

In order to avoid senseless victims, the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu took a decision to set a humanitarian pause in Aleppo at 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on November 4 under the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin.

Two corridors are operating for insurgents withdrawing from the city with weapons. The first corridor leads to the Syrian-Turkish border. It starts near the crossroad of Janul-Duvair and leads along the Kastello road.

The second one leads from the Souq al Hai market through the Masharqa quarter to the Damascus-Aleppo road and further – to Idlib.

Busses and ambulances have been prepared for medical and casualty evacuation. By 8 a.m. on November 8, these transports will have been concentrated near entrances to the humanitarian corridors.

During the ‘humanitarian pause’, the government troops and hardware will have withdrawn at the distance allowing insurgents to leave eastern areas of the city.

Six corridors are operating for withdrawal of civilians, and casualty and medical evacuation. Entrances to the corridors are near Madrese Taibah, Burge restaurant, al-Sahur Park, Aj Munir school, and mosques of Sheikh Said and Masjid.

Posts with hot meal and first medical aid are organized near these humanitarian corridors by the city authorities. Additional places have organized in hospitals of the western Aleppo.

Since yesterday the Russian Centre for reconciliation and the administration of the city of Aleppo have been warning civilians and insurgents. Over half a million leaflets showing the routes out of the city and order of the crossing of checkpoints of the government troops are distributed in the Eastern districts of Aleppo. An audio announcement and SMS-sending is lead constantly.

The evacuation process is monitored in the real time by use of unmanned aerial vehicles and web-cameras.

Yesterday the leadership of the Nour al-Din al-Zenki terrorist group, which is referred to the moderate opposition by the West, announced that its units were not going to take the opportunity to leave the eastern Aleppo. They will continue the warfare.

This is the terrorist group, members of which beheaded the child in July. Therefore, this statement did not come as a surprise.

This and other similar radical groups are undermining humanitarian corridors, shooting civilians, who try to leave the eastern quarters of the city, and making every single effort to break the process of situation stabilization in Aleppo down.

Russia continues to provide detailed information and data of objective control on unselective aviation strikes in Iraq by the coalition led by the United States.

During previous briefing, it was reported that the US Air Force aircraft had carried out a missile bombing attack on Tell Kayf inhabited area, located 14 kilometers north of Mosul on 24 of October.

The slide shows the results of this impact. On the satellite image to the left, taken on 24 October (before the strike), you can see school and living houses, and on the right one – what was after. It is clearly visible that the airstrike was carried out in the immediate proximity to the school building, which had damaged by fragmentations and shock wave.

The United States continue to make strikes on residential quarters both in Mosul and in other inhabited areas of the Naynava province of Iraq.

On October 26, the US Air Force aircraft attacked residential areas in the central part of the Hamam al-Alil city, located in 20 kilometers southeast from Mosul.

At the left side, there is a picture made on October 15. The photo demonstrates the mosque and quarters of a private building in front of her. On the right, in the photo from October 30, we can see the traces of bombing attack of the coalition aircraft, to the building located in close proximity to the mosque. As a result of the bombing, civilians whose houses were located less than in 50 meters from the place of the blow, suffered. Mosque suffered significant damage.

On October 31, heavy populated quarters of the cities Bazvaya and Gogjali located in 14 and 9 kilometers to the east from Mosul, suffered massive bombing by the coalition aircraft.

The slide shows that the entry of Iraqi government troops in the town Gogjali, which was a suburb of Mosul, had been preceded by significant destruction of the housing sector as a result of the coalition strikes.

The left and right pictures were taken with a difference in one day. On the photo, dated November 1, we can clearly see residential houses destroyed by the coalition strikes.
