Syrian Front: Da’esh Capture 11 Locations, Deploy 10,000 Troops in Aleppo, Launch Chemical Weapons Attack

Briefing by Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoy

In general, truce process, which is held in the Syrian Arab Republic under bilateral Russian-American agreement, is observed. Combat actions have been stopped in most provinces of Syria except for several ceasefire violations. Certainly it does not refer to ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra.

As a result of implementation of the Russian and US agreements, all necessary conditions for returning of citizens to their houses have been established.

Therefore, city administration, police and security services have been formed; electricity and water supply systems are being recovered in Palmyra and al-Qaryatayn, which had been liberated from terrorists. Civilians are returning to their houses.

Peaceful life is being established in Syrian cities.

Total number of settlements, which had joined ceasefire regime, has reached 61. The number of ceasefire application forms signed with leaders of armed opposition groupings has remained 47.

In accordance to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, specialists of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Armed Forces have been clearing architectural, historical and living parts of Palmyra.

Within last 24 hours, Russian engineers have inspected 6 kilometers of roads, more than 20 hectares and 3 buildings in the historical part of Palmyra. 117 improvised explosive devices, including a radio-controlled demolition bomb (12 kg of TNT), have been defused.

Syrian sappers have cleared 40 streets with houses, 3 schools, post office, city administration, water pump station and 17 kilometers of roads in al-Qaryatayn (Homs province), which had been liberated from terrorists. They have defused 60 demolition bombs, which had been planted by retreating militants.

Despite achieved progress in establishing ceasefire regime, armed formations of Jabhat al-Nusra are still supplied with weapons and personnel by Turkey through regions, where opposition units were active. Information about their locations has been received from the American Centre in Amman.

There is information that 8,000 militants of Jabhat al-Nusra have been concentrated in the south-west of Aleppo, and up to 1,500 militants – in the north of the city.

Within last 24 hours, armed groups (up to 200 men) have arrived in Tell Khadiyah and Banes. Two detachments (more than 100 militants) have arrived in Muheim Hanrat village from al-Khalifa. The groups are armed with a tank and 22 off-roaders with large-caliber machine guns.

Russian defence department addressed to US counterparts by different channels for quelling such actions because it could destabilize the situation.

Jabhat al-Nusra is performing active warfare using these forces. Illegal armed groups have captured al-Ais and Zerba. It is known that Jabhat al-Nusra is to launch a large-scale offensive in order to cut off the road linking Aleppo and Damascus.

In the north of Aleppo, attacks against Sheikh Maqsood and al-Zagra as well as offensive on Handrat are continued.

It is necessary to stop such actions of terrorists in order to prevent siege of northern regions of Syria.

That is why all actions performed by Syrian troops and Russian aviation are aimed at disrupting plans of Jabhat al-Nusra. It is necessary to stress that assault of Aleppo is not being planned.

The Russian Federation has been implementing all obligations aimed at establishing ceasefire in territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. Russian Aerospace Forces do not make strikes against armed formations, which had signed ceasefire agreement.

Humanitarian convoy for citizens of the Homs province is being formed.

Additional information

Terrorists continue concentrating in the south-west of Aleppo.

Formations of Jabhat al-Nusra do not finish warfare in Aleppo and its suburbs. One citizen was killed and three ones, including a child, received wounds of different severity by shellings with mortars and multiple launch rocket systems during attempt to capture Sheikh Maqsood, al-Ramusi and al-Saqari.

Syrian territory suffered shelling carried out by Turkish Armed Forces once again.
