Al Jafaari: Too Early to Speak About Adoption of Any Document at Syria Talks

GENEVA, March 19. /TASS/. It is too early yet to speak about adoption of any document on results of the current round of the inter-Syrian talks, Russia’s envoy to the UN Office and representations of other international organizations in Geneva Alexey Borodavkin told TASS on Saturday.

“As yet, it is too early to say there will be a document,” he said.

At the current stage, he said, the parties to the talks “are working to approach accord on basic principles of Syria’s future political establishment.”

“The task is to fill with practical contents the roadmap of the Syrian political settlement, which is outlined in resolution of the UN Security Council 2254 and 2268,” the diplomat said.

“The civil war in Syria continued for five years. It would be weird to hope within a week the parties, which for all those years were in an armed conflict with each other, could reach a quick accord on the key political transformation of the power in the Syrian Arab Republic.”

Russia “supports contacts with all the parties to talks – both with the delegation of official Damascus, and with the opposition,” he continued. “We tune the parties to flexibility and search for compromises, we support the efforts of [the UN special envoy on Syria] Staffan de Mistura and his team.”
