Syrian Army Reaches Key Oil-Rich Region in Deir Ezzur
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian Army soldiers backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) reached the key oil-rich region of Thayyem in the Southeastern province of Deir Ezzur after a 48-hour battle with the militants of the ISIL terrorist group, battlefield reports said.
Along with reaching the Thayyem Oil Fields, the Syrian forces also advanced to the Gas Company Technical Institute after pushing thier way into nearby regions Southwest of the recently-liberated Tharda Mountains in Deir Ezzur province.
Thayyem Oil Fields no longer produce oil, but are still deemed of high value due to their closeness to the Deir Ezzur-Mayadin Highway.
As the Syrian Army forces are attempting to capture the Thayyem Oil Fields and Gas Company Technical Institute, a brigade of the Syrian elite Republican Guards forces backed by the local tribesmen are pushing Southward along the Deir Ezzur-Mayadin Highway in order to take up positions for an eventual assault on the city of al-Muhassan.
Recently, Syrian Army forces carried out an offensive to recapture parts of the international highway to the ancient city of Palmyra, blocking ISIL’s supply routes from Deir Ezzur.
Earlier on Thursday, the Syrian army units in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur blew up a tunnel dug by terrorist groups, killing all militants stationed in the tunnel and other nearby positions.
The 33-meter-long tunnel was dug in al-Jabilah district in the Southwestern parts of Ferdous mosque whose detonation led to the destruction of a two-story base and a house occupied by the terrorists.

Syrian Army Liberate Strategic Point near Palmyra
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces”, backed by their allies, liberated another point near the strategic city of Palmyra (Tadmur) after a violent battle with ISIL terrorists on Wednesday night.
According to a battlefield source report, the Syrian Armed Forces, backed by Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), Hezbollah and Iraqi paramilitary forces of Liwa Imam Ali imposed full control over Point 939, which is located directly east of the recently captured Hayyal Mountains in Palmyra’s Western regions.
Capturing the Point 939 tonight, the Syrian Armed Forces are now within 6 km of Palmyra’s Southwestern gates and approximately 450 meters away from ISIL’s primary training camp based at the Qatari Royal Villa.
The Desert Hawks Brigade has been doing most of the fighting in battle to liberate the Palmyra lately, as several battalions from this special operations unit continues to inch closer to the Key desert city in the Homs eastern regions.
Furthermore, the arrival of several Hezbollah brigades to the area should propel the government forces against the entrenched ISIL fighters that are unwilling to yield any territory.
Currently, no clashes have been reported in the areas just outside the city Palmyra, in large part thanks to the Russian Air Force’s ongoing aerial assault over ISIL’ positions near Al-Sakhanah.
Earlier reports suggest that the Syrian army backed by the Russian air force continued its advances in the mountainous regions in the surrounding areas of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) on Wednesday.
Scores of terrorists were killed and wounded in tough battle in the neighborhoods of Palmyra in the Eastern part of Homs province.
Meantime, the army’s artillery units clashed with the ISIL terrorists in Western Triangle region and al-Hayan mountain in Homs province.
The ISIL terrorists’ positions in Enq al-Hava, Rahoum, Abu Jaris, Maksar al-Hesan and Jeb al-Jarah in the Eastern part of Homs were razed down by the Syrian army and popular forces.
