Russian Army General Staff: Russia conducted more than 600 sorties against 380 ISIS positions in Syria since Sep 30

Moscow, SANA
Andrei Kartapolov Russian Army General StaffGen. Andrei Kartapolov, chief of operations of the Russian Army General Staff affirmed that Russian airstrikes in Syria aim at eliminating the Islamic state of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

In a statement published by Russia Today website on Friday, Kartapolov said that Russia had conducted more than 600 sorties and bombed more than 380 ISIS targets since the start of the campaign in Syria on September 30.

He added that the air forces of Syria, Iraq and Iran are carrying out their own tasks in combating ISIS according to their plans and in coordination with Russia.
Russia can strike positions of Islamic State militants in Syria from its ships based in the Mediterranean Sea anytime should the command decide to do so, he noted.

“Our naval group in the Mediterranean is mostly used for supplying goals. We have a group of warships there too and this group provides antiaircraft protection for our base,” Kartapolov said.

Kartapolov said that in the long run Russia may end up having one massive military base in Syria, which would be shared by the Navy, the Air Forces and the Ground Forces.
He pointed out that Moscow had invited Washington to take part in the center’s work, but ignored it.

Kartapolov said that ISIS terrorists number around 40 to 50 thousand, noting that ISIS is looting and fighting for turf. “When they need foreign money, they declare that they are fighting against the Syrian state. But once they get the money they use it as they please,” he added.

He stated that the US-led Coalition is targeting bridges, power stations, water pumps and other public utilities which made life harder for Syrians, adding that those strikes have decreased the military capabilities of the Syrian Army and pushed them to retreat while ISIS was buying supplies in neighboring countries and receiving deliveries from certain organizations and nations.

Syrian Army Seizes Control of Al-Amal Farms in Golan Heights

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army won control over Al-Amal Farms north of the recently captured Tal Al-Ahmar hilltops in the Golan Heights following fierce clashes with Israeli-backed militants.

Earlier this morning, the Syrian Army’s Brigade 90, in cooperation with Fouj Al-Joulan (Golan Regiment) and Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra (Al-Quneitra Hawks Brigade) of the National Defense Forces (NDF), launched an attack on Israeli-backed militants in the Al-Amal Farms located north of the Tal Al-Ahmar hilltops in the Golan Heights in Quneitra province.

The Syrian Armed Forces surprised the terrorists of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham (Ahrar Al-Sham Movement) and the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” with an attack on their positions Al-Amal Farms just two days after they seized full-control of Tal Al-Ahmar.

Reports said the Syrian army won control over the farms after heavy clashes with the terrorists.

With Al-Amal Farms, Tal Qaba’a (UN Hill), and Tal Al-Ahmar (Red Hill) under their control, the Syrian government troops have now taken back almost all the regions that they lost to the militants in the Golan Heights two weeks ago.

The Syrian Armed Forces are now reportedly preparing to launch the final phase of their several-staged attack on militant-held Tal Taranjah and the Taranjah Company area in the coming days in a bid to recapture the remaining territories that they lost to the militants in the Western province of Quneitra two weeks ago and before the Russian airstrikes started.

The Syrian army, backed by the popular defense forces, regained full control over the Tal Al-Ahmar hilltops on Tuesday, and inflicted heavy losses on terrorists of al-Nusra Front and its affiliated groups, Ahrar Al-Sham and FSA.

The self-proclaimed leader of the so-called al-Sabtain Brigade, Mou’atasem al-Tahan aka Abu Mamoun, was among the dead terrorists.

Meanwhile, terrorist groups acknowledged on their social media pages that a number of terrorists, including Alaa Fathi al-Wadi, Omar Nader al-Sa’aid, Ayuob Najim al-Darawsha, Mohannad Hussein al-Tarshan, Bilal Ftaih and Ahmed Mohammad Sweidani, were killed in the clashes.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah Retake Three New Areas in Southern Aleppo Operation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Military sources said on Friday that the Syrian Armed Forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, with Russia’s air backup, recaptured three more areas in their operations against militants’ positions in the Southern flanks of the Northern city of Aleppo.

The sources said that, the Syrian Army, in coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and Kata’ebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions), launched their large-scale Southern Aleppo offensive in the Azzan Mountains at 10 a.m. (Damascus Time) on Friday morning.

The Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance captured 3 new sites from the militants Jabhat Al-Shamiyah (Levantine Front), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) this morning, killing a number of enemy combatants in the process of their advance in the Aleppo’s Southern countryside, massdar reported.

The Syrian army troops and Lebanese Resistance captured the villages of ‘Abtayn, and Qala’at Al-Najam, along with the Defense Battalion Base and the farms surrounding it; this rapid progress by the pro-government forces caught the militants off-guard, as they frantically retreated to the Southwest in order to evade the swarming enemy fighters.

The main objective of the Syrian Armed Forces-Lebanese Resistance’s Southern Aleppo offensive is to recapture the ‘Azzan Mountains from the terrorists, while also creating a larger buffer-zone around the Syrian government’s only highway leading to the provincial capital.

Syrian Army Targets Militants’ Supply Convoy North of Homs

TEHRAN (FNA)- Informed sources said that the Syrian Army identified an important supply convoy of the militant groups in the Northern parts of the Central Homs province and destroyed it in an attack.

The sources said that a long convoy of the militants’ vehicles, loaded with weapons and ammunition, were targeted and destroyed in the Syrian army troops’ offensive in Dar al-Kabira.

The sources further added that tens of terrorists were also killed in the Syrian soldiers’ attack.

On Wednesday, Chechen-born Abu Bakr al-Shishani, the top commander of Ahrar al Sham terrorist group in Homs province, was killed in a Russian airstrike in Syria.

Russian Fighter Jets Bomb Militant Positions in Southern Aleppo in Six Sorties

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Russian warplanes struck militants’ defense lines in Southern Aleppo province in six sorties of flights on Friday morning, local sources said, adding that the Syrian army and Hezbollah launched their joint massive operation after the Russian airstrikes.

The sources said that the early morning attacks of the Russian fighter jets weakened the militants groups, who did not able to regroup and failed to defend their positions against the Syrian army troops and Hezbollah fighters.

The Russia’s Friday air attacks left scores of the militant groups from the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Ahrar al-Sham and Jabahat al-Shamiya killed or wounded, local witnesses told massdar.

Military sources said on Friday that the Syrian Armed Forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, with the Russia’s aerial backup, recaptured three more areas in their operations against the militants’ positions in Southern flanks of the Northern city of Aleppo.

Military Strategist: Quadrilateral Coalition Tightening Grip on Terrorists in Damascus Countryside

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior strategist disclosed that the start of the new round of military operations in the Damascus countryside is part of the plan of the Iran-Russia-Syria-Iraq quadrilateral coalition to tighten the grip on the terrorists in the region.

“The new wave of war on the terrorists in the Damascus countryside started because the Damascus government has been tipped off about the terrorists’ new plans to launch attacks on the Syrian government in the Northern parts of the country and help the foreign-backed militants in the North,” Syrian Military Strategist Yahya Soleiman told FNA on Friday.

He noted that winning back the city of Beiji in Western Iraq and attacking the convoy of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Anbar province were the result of intelligence cooperation among Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq.

“Iran and Russia are two determining members of the war against the ISIL terrorists, and as a result of their membership in this quadrilateral coalition, the start of new military operations in Syria has forced the Takfiri terrorists to flee to Turkey, Jordan and Europe,” Soleiman said.

On Saturday, a prominent military expert said on Saturday that the newly-formed Fourth Corps of the Syrian Army will soon earn new gains in the Northern parts of the country.

“The formation of the Syrian Army’s Fourth Corps will result in deep penetration into the Northern areas and collapse of the terrorist groups,” Issa al-Zaher told FNA.

He said the Fourth Corps comprises the Syrian army’s elite forces who are well-experienced in combat under different geographical and climatic conditions, and they are familiar with different kinds of war tactics.

Zaher said that the newly-formed corps of the Syrian army has between 60,000 to 100,000 troops with different expertise.

“The Syrian army’s artillery and missile attacks on the terrorists’ positions in Northern Syria showed that the terrorists have completely lost their power,” he added, the elite force is about to earn major victories in the Northern front in the coming days.

Earlier this month, Senior Political Analyst Ali Maqsoud said the army was preparing for massive and decisive operations in the Northern parts of Syria following the Russians’ recent logistical backups

“Blizzard military operations which will be of decisive importance will soon start in Idlib, Jisr al-Shughour and Aleppo in the North,” Maqsoud told FNA.

He noted that the army plans to destroy the enemy convoys that are on the move from Damascus to Homs and from there to Lattakia, Idlib and Hama in the operations.

Maqsoud, meantime, said the terrorist groups might increase their attacks on the Syrian army in the next few days as well, “but underlined that the US and Israeli plots are being defused in the region rapidly, and efforts to uproot terrorism in Syria have started”.

Syrian Government Spy within Ranks of Free Syrian Army

Lt. Ahmad, after he was captured by FSA in 2012

TEHRAN (FNA)- A former Syrian Army officer that defected to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Dara’a province in 2012 has returned to Damascus after completing his three-year-long spying mission for the Syrian Military Intelligence.

The Army officer, Lieutenant Hussein Al-Ahmad of Lattakia City, was originally captured by the Free Syrian Army in 2012 – he became famous for publicly defecting to the aforementioned rebel group following his capture; this led to Lt. Ahmad’s acceptance among his fellow defectors.

Lt. Ahmad would participate in a number of battles in 2014, including the rebel victory at Tal Al-Harrah in the Western parts of Dara’a province; this prompted the Free Syrian Army’s Central Command to appoint him as commander of Dara’a tribes.

Lieutenant Hussein Al-Ahmad

Unbeknownst to the Free Syrian Army’s Central Command, Lt. Ahmad was actively communicating with the Syrian Air Force Intelligence in Damascus and providing them with specific locations of rebel military installations and rebel military intelligence.

Three days ago, Lt. Ahmad abandoned his new post in West Ghouta in Damascus province and returned to the Syrian capital, where he was greeted warmly by his peers after his three-year-long mission.

When Lt. Ahmad entered Damascus, he was seen driving a vehicle fitted with a heavy machine gun – he also possessed important rebel documents that were handed to the AFI upon his arrival.

Treated as a hero in Damascus, a number of Syrian news outlets have already ran his perilous journey through the rebel ranks and his experience with the Syrian Opposition.

Lt. Ahmad’s espionage mission proved invaluable to the Syrian Armed Forces protecting the provincial capital of Dara’a, as they were provided with vital detailed intel about offensives and those participating in the attacks.
