Syria in the Last 24 Hours – SYAAF and Russia Target Terrorist Strongholds

It came to our attention the number of false facts regarding The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation’s support to the Syrian Arab Armed Forces, therefore and to clarify only:

Based on what is announced up until the publication of this post:

1. Based on an official Syrian Arab Republic’s request to the Russian Federation for military support against terrorism the Russian Air Force will provide assistance to the Syrian Air Force and Syrian Armed Forces.

2. There will be no Russian boots on the ground other than Russian Naval troops deployed along side Syrian Arab Army units to guard and protect Russian military establishments on Syrian soils.

3. Russian Army experts have been present on Syria soil since the Soviet Union and there is nothing new in their presence with Syrian Army troops.

4. Russian areal operations will be conducted mutually with Syrian Arab Air Force.

5. Syrian ministry of defense and Russian ministry of defense are exchanging information at highest levels.

6. Syrian Arab Army troops will be the only ground force and will conduct joint operations with Russian Air Force and Syrian Arab Air Force.

7. Russia will provide all necessary equipment and support to the Syrian Arab Army to assure the Syrian Arab Army is fully capable of defeating ISIS.

8. The main goal of the operations is defeating ISIS, and other terrorist organizations regardless of what they call themselves.

The Russian direct support is welcomed and well timed; for those who think it took a long time to happen, we’d like to say there are number of domestic, regional, and international factors that were considered by both the Syrian and the Russian commands.

Did John Kerry make both himself and the administration he represents look ignorant again by referring to the “Barrel bombs” used against civilians?!

Hope the people providing them with intel read this post somehow: There is no such a thing called a “Barrel bomb”, there are however “General Purpose bombs”.

A general-purpose bomb is an air-dropped bomb intended as a compromise between blast damage, penetration, and fragmentation in explosive effect.

The first General-Purpose bomb manufactured was in 1937 by the British.

Soviet Union manufactured what is called “FAB” or “Fugasnaya Aviatsionnaya Bomba” which stands for “Aviation Demolition Bomb”

The Soviet/Russian General-Purpose bombs are sometimes called Iron Bombs. They are shaped like barrels but they are not “Barrel Bombs”

I believe enough said, and this is not an educational page therefore I won’t go into more details regarding bomb types.

SyAAF have been using Soviet designed, locally manufactured FABs, and will continue using it, but that does not mean they are using “Barrel-Bombs” there is no such a thing is “Barrel-Bombs”

This picture is a demonstration of a MiG-23BN loaded with General Purpose bombs.

Now for those who will ask why is the Syrian military using such unguided often called dumb bombs?! Well maybe because half of the world is putting a siege on the one army who truly is fighting terrorism.

SyAAF conducted number of airstrikes against enemy locations in the village of Mashara in al-Qunaitira; destroying terrorist building used as a weapons depot.

Also, SyAAF attack bombers raided a convoy in the town destroyed 7 terrorist operated vehicles.

The Russian Air Force carried out more air strikes on 12 ISIS positions in Homs, Hama and Idleb as part of the agreement between Syria and Russia to eliminate ISIS.

The Russian air operation in Syria started on Wednesday after Russia’s Federation Council gave permission to President Vladimir Putin to use Air Force against terrorists in Syria upon President Bashar al-Assad’s request.

Russia Today website quoted Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Maj. Igor Konashenkov as saying in a statement that “a terrorist HQ and an ammunition depot were destroyed near Idleb, as were a fortified three-level command center near Hama.”

“A direct bomb hit also completely destroyed a workshop north of Homs that produced explosives and ammunition,” he added, saying that at this workshop terrorists were stuffing vehicles with explosives, which were then used to carry out terrorist attacks.

20 air strikes targeted 8 ISIS positions in Syria on Wednesday, according to the Ministry. Those included ammunition warehouses and command and control centers.

The Russian Sputnik news agency also quoted Konashenkov as saying that more than 50 airplanes take part in the Russian military operation against ISIS terrorists in Syria, adding that a group of Russian marines are guarding the Hmaimim Airbase in Syria where the Russian Air Force is temporarily deployed.

“A battalion tactical group of marines is involved in securing and defending the base,” Konashenkov explained.

The Press Office of the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that “Targets selected for airstrikes by Russian aviation are strictly outside populated areas, and are based on confirmed intelligence information.”

In a relevant context, the Ministry announced that the Russian landing ships in the Mediterranean and Russia’s Black Sea Fleet forces will take part in the Russian air operation against terrorist organizations in Syria to protect the Russian military facilities in Tartous and Lattakia.
