Syrian Consultative Center for Studies and Human Rights Calls Upon UN Secretary General, UN Syria Envoy to send Clear Messages to Terrorism Instigators in Syria

The Syrian Consultative Center for Studies and Human Rights called upon the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi to send clear messages to the instigators and supporters of terrorism to stop harming the Syrian people and take the necessary measures in this regard according to international law.

The Center said in a statement on Sunday that ”as the peace-loving countries gathered and proposed a peaceful solution through dialogue in Syria, other countries have insisted to remain hostile to the Syrian people, especially Turkey that wanted to plunge further in the bloodshed in Syria through embracing terrorists and providing them with their unlimited support to pass their agenda.”

”By doing so, these countries have violated international law the UN Charter which charted relations among countries and considered these acts an aggression and interference in the internal affairs of countries,” the statement added.

Haidar: Internal Factor Is Positive and Heading towards Solution, External Factor Is Coping

Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs, Dr. Ali Haidar, stressed that the solution to the crisis in Syria is a Syrian one and to reached by the Syrians themselves, asserting that the contribution of the friends and allies in some points can help create the favorable circumstances to go for the political process that helps Syria get out of the crisis.

In an interview with the Syrian TV on Saturday, Haidar said the visits he recently paid among a Syrian delegation to Tehran and Moscow came in the framework of enhancing the chances of success for the political process, being the only outlet from the crisis and the only way to halt violence.

He pointed out that the external factor collaborates with the internal factor in accelerating the solution or hindering it, stressing however that “the inside is the basis as the Syrians are mostly convinced that the solution won’t be through weapons or on the base of one side winning over the other or through the mentality of exclusion.”

“There needs to be a comprehensive and honorable solution that maintains the dignity of all the Syrians and presents a vision of the new Syria,” Haidar added.

He highlighted that the internal atmosphere is positive with people “feeling fed up with the state of violence and trying to dust off the gunmen to have the areas cleared of them so as to reach a solid ground that’s suitable for the political solution through a national dialogue table involving all the Syrians.”

“The external factor has started to cope with the Syrian reality after all the international initiatives have failed because of the stances of some Western countries,” said the Minister, noting that the US and the European countries have never been with the Syrian people throughout history, while the Russian and Iranian relations with Syria have always been firm and continuous.

“There is a unified vision in Russia and Iran which says that the foreign factor has harmed the crisis and taken the Syrian scene to another that is more violent contrary to what the Syrian citizens themselves had sought,” Haidar added.

He stressed that the two countries reject the siege, boycott and sanctions imposed by some countries against Syria.

Haidar hailed Russia’s stances regarding the crisis in Syria for standing at the same distance of all the Syrian sides through maintaining a good level of relations with the Syrian state and at the same time receiving the national opposition and the opposition abroad, highlighting that Russia seeks to preserve the interests of the Syrian people.

The Western countries seek to achieve their interests which are temporary and contradict the interests of the Syrian people and aimed at protecting and legitimizing the existence of the Israeli entity at the expense of the Syrian and Arab rights, Haidar underlined.

Referring to the talk which preceded the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit on ‘contact groups’ carrying initiatives, the Minister affirmed that “so far there isn’t any crystal-clear and final initiative raised on the table for discussion and Syria’s approval but a group of ideas and proposals which we discussed part of them in Moscow and the other part in Tehran and are all help the Syrians reach the dialogue table.”

“We support any sincere effort and our doors are always open, but we require for the success of these initiatives or missions that the side that has proposed them stand at equal distance from all the Syrian people,” Haidar stressed.

He pointed out that the countries which have practiced political and economic boycott and pressures on Syria do not want a solution for the crisis as they have waged a flagrant war on Damascus.

He highlighted that the Western countries made every effort to embroil the NAM in some features of the Western project through attempting to affect the final statement but the determination of the friendly countries and the role of some key countries foiled that.

Minister Haidar called on the western and neighboring countries to not interfere in Syria’s internal affairs and close the channels of funding and arming the armed groups and the political and media embracing of these gangs, stressing that Syria is able to overcome the crisis.

He reiterated Syria’s welcome of Lakhdar Brahimi as the new UN envoy and its commitment to offering all assistance to him, noting that the success or failure of Brahimi’s mission is contingent on the international consensus and international intentions to help him accomplish his mission.

The negative point with Brahimi’s mission, Haidar said, is absconding the item about halting violence as the Western countries want to go for the political process because they do not want the violence to halt but seek a political dialogue under the military pressure.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry of National Reconciliation Affairs works on letting off the stream in the street and eliminating all the traces of the past in a way to contribute to realizing the national reconciliation.

For this purpose, Haidar said, the Ministry works on releasing all the detainees whose hands are clear of the blood of the Syrian people, noting that the sides concerned with this process are dealing positively with this file.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the differences between Russia and the Western countries over the crisis in Syria are deep.

He expressed confidence that “the only available solution is the one which the Syrians adopt and they should decide their destiny by themselves,” pointing out that the Security Council has no authorities to pass any solution in contrary to that or to support any foreign interference in the countries affairs.

Lavrov added that some Western and regional countries insist on the flagrant military intervention in Syria’s internal affairs, while Russia and China and other countries insist on the need of halting the acts of violence and finding peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria.
