CHINA AND RUSSIA BLOCK UN RESOLUTION AGAINST SYRIA

With Russia concerned over abuse of the UN mandate in Libya, Moscow is trying to make sure the same mistakes are not repeated elsewhere. It’s effectively blocking draft resolutions put forward at the UN nuclear watchdog and the Security Council, which are aimed at pressuring the Syrian regime. As Marina Portnaya reports, it’s because the same kind of language is being used, which led to the bombing of Libya.

While the United Nations mulls a course of action over Syria, crackdowns on protesters in Yemen and Bahrain are being seemingly overlooked. War correspondent Eric Margolis says that Washington is using the UN as a tool, to protect its friends and punish its enemies.
